International Cleanup Day

In September 2007, thousands of scuba divers and water enthusiasts will celebrate Annual International Cleanup Day, a worldwide effort to remove debris from our beaches, seas, lakes and waterways whilst collating information about the amount and type of rubbish collected. The data gathered is used to highlight how serious the problem of aquatic pollution is, to target the polluters and tackle marine and beach litter at the local, national and international level.

Aside from being a fun event, it’s a worldwide effort to contribute towards a better and safer aquatic environment for all. Project AWARE co-ordinates the underwater portion of the event, in co-operation with the Ocean Conservancy, to preserve aquatic ecosystems, educate the public on debris issues and gather data for resource managers.

All volunteers will receive a certificate of participation, not to mention the feel good factor, knowing we will all be doing something to preserve our diving environment whilst having fun.

If you would like to get involved in the next Cleanup Day, either collecting on the shore, or below the water, please contact us at the store; divers, non divers, non club members are all welcome. Bring the family and make a day of it.

We'd like to say a big thank you to all those that helped out with our previous  Cleanups.
